Poorvi (she/her)

Poorvi Kumar is a fourth-year debater, currently ranked in the top 15 debaters across the country in Worlds Schools Debate by the National Speech and Debate Association. Her notable achievements include championing the Texas Forensic Association (TFA) State tournament in 2024 (9th speaker), championing the Grapevine Classic 2023 (3rd speaker 2024) as well as reaching deep elimination rounds like semifinals at the inaugural world schools division of the Tournament of Champions (TOC 2024), quarterfinals at the Longhorn Classic 2023 (3rd speaker) and quarterfinals at the Cal Berkeley Invitational 2024 (5th speaker). She is also a two time member of Team Texas (2023-2024 and 2024-2025) consisting of the top 15 world schools debaters across the state of Texas where she has captained the team at state, national, and international competition, finaling the Greenhill Fall Classic (2023) and reaching semifinals at Blake (2023). Aside from World Schools Poorvi has competed in Congress and International Extemp reaching notable success. Examples of this include semifinals at the National Speech and Debate Association’s National Tournament in Congressional Debate: House (2023), 4th at Capitol Congress, quarterfinals at TFA State in international extemp (2024), semifinals at the Berkeley Invitational in international extemp (2024) and receiving multiple bids to the TOC and NIETOC in both events.

Aspirations

After she graduates, Poorvi hopes to study and reside in the northeast and be an active member of her school’s public speaking and mock trial programs. She aspires to have a career in politics or law, furthering advocacy for issues she is passionate about. Poorvi also aspires to get more of her work published as well as restart modeling in a professional setting.
